As I mentioned in my last post...we sold our house! So, here's the story in a nutshell:
David called the funeral home where he has worked weekends since we moved here to let them know that he would only continue to work through the end of February. The gentleman he spoke with is the partner to the owner and reminded David that David Keller (the owner) was also a licensed realtor. We talked about it with one another and decided that we would at least have him come over and look at the house and give us some advice and go from there.
He called David the Thursday night that he left for Dallas for his conference to let him know that he had a potential buyer who would like to see the house Monday. We hadn't even met with him yet to show him the house and get an idea about a price range and figure out what we needed to fix, etc. However, the market being what it is right now, we didn't want to pass up any opportunity to show the house and get the word out.
On the negative side, the house was not even CLOSE to ready to show AND David was out of town all weekend AND I was home alone with 4 kids AND I was struggling with a major emotional down and the timing was just really bad!!! That being what it was, I did what I could before David got back and Sunday afternoon we went crazy with what was left. I took the kids and left the house Monday afternoon thinking, "That was a huge waste of time and stress. There is no way the FIRST people to look at our house ESPECIALLY when it isn't ready to be shown are going to make an offer." I couldn't have been more wrong!
We got a call from our realtor that evening saying that the people wanted to make an offer on the house for $10,000 MORE than we thought we would list it for!!!! Can you believe THAT?!
AND they didn't need to be in the house until April which meant that we wouldn't have to find an apartment for the few months between now and May 2 when David graduates. Could not be more perfect!
Our realtor asked if he could put a sign in our yard anyway to advertise for him and I told him he could do pretty much whatever he wants! :) He is our hero!
So, like I said - that's it in a nutshell. We still have inspections and appraisals and all that good stuff, but we KNOW that God had His hand in all this and that it is a major blessing. (Maybe cuz David accepted the Elder's Quorum President calling?!)
David leaves tomorrow to interview in WA for what will hopefully turn out to be as great an experience! We leave Memphis in 78 days...but who's counting?! Ruth
