Have a few minutes while the baby is sleeping to post about taking 1 and 2 up to the Astoria Column after we saw the tallships. The Column is located at the highest point of Astoria and overlooks the Columbia River, Youngs Bay, Lewis and Clark River, and out into the Pacific Ocean. I was able to see this beautiful area when I visited here with my mom several months ago when all of this was just a minute possibility. But here we are! The girls were excited to see it up close (you can see the column from all over Astoria since it's up so high. Even from across the river in WA and especially at night when it's all lit up!) and were disappointed that they weren't able to climb up inside. I heard that it was closed for now but not sure why... Anyway, the wind was howling and it was ever-so-cold but they loved being way up there! Here's a link to find out more about the column: http://www.astoriacolumn.org/ Check it out cuz there's also a great picture of it at night!
Here are my pix of it. Be sure to check out my link on the left side of the blog to the Wikipedia info on Astoria, OR! Later, y'all!
The girls in front of the column. The pictures engraved around the outside of the column are a chronological depiction of the history of the Astoria area. A view of the Astoria Megler bridge from up on high. That's the one that I keep showing you that goes over the river to WA. The next closest bridge to cross over the stateline is almost to Longview (over an hour away!). David is hoping and praying that this bridge is never out when he has to be at the Long Beach office! That could make for a LONG commute! :)
2 freezing her buns off above the bridge. And then they were ready to go home!
